Had the extraordinary good fortune recently to spend time with some incredible animals in Canada’s Great Bear Rain Forest – including some quite majestic grizzly bears. As omnivores, grizzlies will eat anything nutritious they can find, eating up to 40 kg of food every day. Their diet varies depending on the season but with plentiful food supplies, they can put on 1kg of body weight every day! When I was with them, the salmon run hadn’t started so the bears were beginning their summer happily grazing on sedge grass. With dens in the thick forest, they would venture out into the open and swim across fast flowing water to get to the islands of succulent sedge.
Come back soon for more film and photos of these amazing creatures 🙂
